BACKGROUND
In order to keep distribution pace and manage workload of the COVID-19 vaccine clinics, Staff is requesting authorization to hire up to ten temporary employees.
In accordance with City policy 4.1.2 Employee Classifications, temporary employees are those with assignments that are of a limited duration, ordinarily specified in advance. A temporary employee may be full-time or part-time, paid on an hourly basis and not eligible for City benefits.
These temporary employees will operate under the oversight of the Fire Department, within the Emergency Management division. Employee work assignments are not anticipated to exceed four months in duration. We have hired one lead temporary employee – COVID Support Lead – and one supporting employee – COVID Support Staff. The essential functions of these positions are detailed in the attached job descriptions. This request is for up to an additional 8 temporary employees.
GOAL
Approve Resolution No. 21-R-27 forauthorizing up to (10) temporary employees to help manage the COVID Vaccine Clinic.
COMMUNITY BENEFIT
These temporary employees will enable the City to maintain a high level of vaccine delivery to the Community while allowing less of a need for City Staff to work the clinic.
SUMMARY OF RECOMMENDED ACTION
Approve Resolution No. 21-R-26 forauthorizing up to (10) temporary employees to help manage the COVID Vaccine Clinic.
FISCAL IMPACT
Staff proposes paying the COVID Support Lead $17.00/hr and all other temp COVID Support Staff $15.00/hr. Total estimated costs for up to ten temporary employees is approximately $100,000 (based on 14-week work assignment and all staff used full-time).
